As a criminal defense and personal injury attorney, I have dedicated my practice to representing individuals facing significant legal challenges. I founded my own law firm in 1976 to provide steadfast advocacy for people, not corporations, insurance companies, or government entities.
Since then, I have handled major criminal cases, catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims, and complex civil matters, both in Alaska and in federal courts.
My Background
I began my legal career after earning a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, where I graduated in the top 20% of my class. Before attending law school, I completed two Bachelor of Science degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one in Industrial Management and the other in Electrical Engineering. From the outset, my path has been guided by a commitment to excellence, analytical rigor, and detailed preparation, qualities that I bring to every case I undertake.
After graduating from Harvard, I moved to Alaska to clerk for the Alaska Supreme Court under Justice Robert Boochever. I then served as a trial and appellate attorney with the Alaska Public Defender Agency in Anchorage, gaining experience in a wide range of criminal matters. These years taught me the critical importance of preparation, strategic thinking, and steadfast advocacy on behalf of clients facing life-altering consequences.
Criminal Defense & Personal Injury Representation
Since establishing my private practice, I have focused on two primary areas: criminal defense and personal injury. In criminal defense, I represent individuals in state and federal matters, including misdemeanors, felonies, and complex cases that require both trial and appellate proficiency. I have handled cases involving investigations, indictments, and appeals, protecting client rights and making their voices heard.
In personal injury, I represent clients who have suffered serious and catastrophic injuries or lost loved ones due to the negligence of others. My practice encompasses aviation accidents, product liability, medical malpractice, construction injuries, maritime and admiralty matters, as well as other high-stakes civil claims. Over the years, I have recovered millions of dollars for clients, helping them rebuild their lives after devastating events.
While criminal defense and personal injury are the core of my practice, I also assist clients with divorce and family law matters.
